What can you buy?

All the produce listed on the Gribbles Butchers website is subject to availability. In practice we can usually supply everything on the site, however occasionally not all of the products listed will be available all the time. Some products are seasonal (for example, game birds), some require further hanging time to ensure optimum quality, and some are just such hot sellers that we may have temporarily sold out. If we cannot fulfil an order, in part or in full, we will contact you to update you and possibly suggest a replacement.

Don’t forget there are real people behind this website! Please call us on 01752 89 30 30 if you would like to discuss the products in detail directly with the butcher who is preparing your order. For example, you can contact us if you would like us to cut or package your product or carcass in a specific way.

Pricing, weight and variations

Where sold by weight, products are listed in kilograms. We have provided weights in pounds also, but for information only. All weights are approximate. For guidance, 2.2 lbs = 1 kilo; 1 lb = 454 grams.

Most of our produce is sold by weight. The average pack sizes and prices quoted on the website are intended as a guide only and marginal variations may apply. If your order is for a specific weight we take payment for that weight on order. As all meat is individually cut there will be small variations in weight above or below the weight you specified. As it is impractical to collect small additional payments or process small refunds we will guarantee that any weight variation never exceeds more or less than 10% from the weight ordered. As a result orders delivered within this 10% weight range will be deemed complete.

Very occasionally for certain produce lines the final cost of your order will not be known until after we have cut your meat and prepared your order to your specification. If that is the case we will confirm the total cost by invoice. If you have provided debit or credit card details we will debit your card with the exact cost after your meats have been prepared and weighed and will send you the card receipt.

All prices are quoted in £pounds sterling and include VAT at the appropriate rate (0% or 17.5%). However, nearly all our produce is zero rated for VAT. Our VAT registration number is 675 7946 69. Prices quoted on the website are subject to change and are indicative only. If we have mistakenly under priced a product we will not be liable to supply that product at the stated price: we will contact you to notify you of our mistake and amend your order for your confirmation.

We make every effort to provide true and accurate images of our products, but please note that these images are for illustration purposes only and do not necessarily represent the actual products ordered by you.

How do you order?

To order by telephone: 01752 89 30 30

To order by email: sales@gribblesbutchers.co.uk

To order online, simply select and add items to the basket with your required quantity; when you have finished shopping and your basket is full click on the “Proceed to Checkout” button. You will then be taken through the contact details and payment screen on a secure server.

Before submitting your order we will ask you to read and agree to these terms and conditions and confirm your acceptance of them. You will receive by email an acknowledgement of receipt of your order with a unique order number which should be quoted in all communication with us. Back at Head Office we will then ensure that we can fulfil your order and either dispatch the meats to you or contact you to confirm our acceptance of your order pending dispatch. The simple automatic acknowledgement of your order does not constitute a contract between you and us. A binding contract of sale of goods between you and us comes into effect upon confirmation of the order by us or at the latest at the time of dispatch of the meat.

If applicable you will be advised whether or not an appropriate substitute product is available; you have the right to reject any substitute. Acceptance or rejection of substitute products does not occur until we discuss the options by telephone or communicate and agree by email.

Orders will only be accepted if there has been no material error as to description or price. We reserve the right to refuse to process any order in our absolute discretion.

How can you pay?

Payment can be made using all major credit or debit cards (Switch, Visa or Mastercard) online via SecPay and Streamline. We use industry standard secure encryption technology to protect your payment details. Our secure server software encrypts personal information entered into the website form including card number, name and address.

Alternatively you can phone us with your card details (01752 89 30 30) or pay for your order by posting a cheque to the address above together with a print out of your order form. If you pay by cheque we reserve the right to wait for the cheque to clear before dispatching.

To ensure efficient handling of pre-Christmas orders at our busiest time we will take full payment upon receipt of your order to guarantee delivery prior to Christmas. Our last order day for guaranteeing pre-Christmas delivery is Wednesday 13 December 10am. In the unlikely event of any problem occurring with your order where payment has already been received, we will credit the amount to you without delay.

We regret that due to extremely high demand at Christmas (2006 only) our web shop is closed for the placing of orders from 10am 13 December, reopening Wednesday 3 January 10am.

Where full payment is not received in clear funds prior to dispatch, and is late, Gribbles Butchers reserve the right to charge late payment interest under the late payment legislation if applicable. You agree to indemnify us against all loss, cost and expense incurred by us or our agent in obtaining payment from you in the event that we are unable to recover in full the price of any product ordered by you.

How and when do we deliver? How do we keep it fresh?

Gribbles Butchers dispatches orders weekly on Wednesdays for receipt by customers on Thursdays for all orders received and fully paid by 10 am on that Wednesday. We are unable to guarantee delivery time slots. Please include any special delivery instructions on the order form.

If you have a particular event or date in mind, such as a dinner party or reception, requiring delivery on another day please call to ensure that delivery can be made in time. It will usually be no problem.

We use a reputable national next day courier company (TNT) to deliver your meat to the address specified by you in the order form. Usually, they will require a signature. If a signature is obtained we will be entitled to assume that that person is authorised by you to receive the products.

We do our utmost to ensure that your produce arrives in great condition. Our meat is fresh (unless stipulated otherwise), vacuum packed in insulated bags and/or polystyrene boxes, and surrounded with ice gel packs so it remains in top condition upon arrival. For best practice we recommend (but it is not essential) that in the months of May to Sept you store your product in a fridge or freezer immediately upon receipt (although there is no problem if left in our container until the evening). Outside these months when ambient air temperatures are cooler there is no problem in keeping the goods in the unopened container for another day. Larger commercial orders or very local deliveries are transported in refrigerated vehicles.

At the time of delivery you or someone on your behalf must ensure that you are available to receive the products; or leave a special instruction online eg leave in shed/ next door neighbour no 32 etc for driver. Due to the perishable nature of the products and our commitment to supply products of the highest quality, where nobody is available to accept delivery on either of two visits by the courier and no appropriate signed “leave safe” instructions have been left for the courier, the products will be returned to us by the courier. Where the product is delivered (or an attempt to deliver has been made) in accordance with this procedure and/or your prior instructions, we will not be held liable for produce that has perished or been returned to us and regret that we cannot make any refund.

By prior arrangement products can also be collected from our retail shop in Ivybridge or from our farm unit in Staverton. If you arrange to collect at a specific time and the goods remain uncollected within 48 hours of that time, your order will have been deemed completed and no refund made. Delivery charges obviously do not apply for collections

Risk in the goods passes to you upon delivery/ collection made in accordance with our procedure and your prior instructions.

Upon delivery you must inspect the goods within a reasonable time and notify us immediately if you have any problems; you will be deemed to have accepted the goods within 24 hours following delivery, and we will treat the products as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for their purpose.

How much is delivery?

We deliver within mainland UK. Delivery costs are FREE for orders of £100.00 or more. For orders less than £100.00 in value a fixed delivery charge of £10.00 applies. For orders outside mainland UK please contact us to discuss your order and delivery costs and timings.

Where you require multiple deliveries to different addresses (eg trade or corporate gift), please contact us by email or phone to discuss.

Unlike some other mail order butchers we do not charge you separately for the packaging.

Can you cancel an order or return meat?

Gribbles Butchers are confident that we can meet your high standards and expectations. However, if you are not completely satisfied or have a complaint, we will be happy to discuss this with you.

As all the products we supply are perishable we regret that we are unable to offer you the usual statutory right to cancel your order up to 7 working days following delivery of the goods (a right you would have in respect of many other types of goods available for purchase online). Where products supplied are damaged, incorrect or faulty and you have notified us within 24 hours of delivery of the order, we will either replace the product or issue a full refund to you. We may request that goods be returned for inspection prior to agreeing any refund at your cost. You must return the goods to Gribbles Butchers or make them freely available to our courier, but at your cost. If you do not freely return the goods at your cost then we reserve the right to deduct any reasonable costs we incur in recovering the goods from you and will deduct this from your refund. If goods are confirmed to be faulty, damaged or incorrectly supplied we will refund any delivery costs in returning the goods.

Where a refund is made this will be paid as soon as possible, but no later than 30 days from notification.

To discuss any return of meat you must follow our returns procedure by contacting our customer services team on 01752 89 30 30 to obtain a returns authorisation.
