Check out the Scores on the Doors!
Craig and Maria Preston, the husband and wife team who run Gribble’s Butchers’ shop in Plympton, check out the scores on the doors every morning when they get to work.

That’s because there’s a Food Standards Agency sticker on the front door with a big number 5 on it, that they got when they were awarded the FSA’s prestigious 5-star award for food hygiene.
The award, which is given only to food outlets that have achieved the very highest Government-recognised standards of food hygiene, is something Craig and Maria have attained with the help of their local Food Standards Officer.
“We were really pleased to hear about the Government’s NEW “Scores on the Doors” scheme, as food hygiene & our systems are really important to us already at Gribble’s,” says Craig. “The fact that every local authority in the UK is now grading all food premises on a score of 0-5 we see as a great benefit and reassurance to all consumers and it really represents a great business opportunity to embrace. We only had one option which was to confirm our maximum score of 5 thus enhancing the confidence our customers have in our butchers’ shops by the agreement of our local authority”
Mark Gribble, the shop’s owner, is justifiably proud. Gribble’s shop in Ivybridge is also a 5-star establishment, while their new shop at Occombe Farm is also already well on its way. “This award is good for us and for our customers, but it’s great for Craig and Maria. They worked really hard for it and we’re all delighted for them.”
