A Name You Can Trust
Situated in the heart of Devon – one of the best agricultural regions in the UK – Gribble's Butchers is a well-established and friendly West Country Butchers operating in accordance with a simple ethos:
“to provide top quality, traceable meats using traditional butchery methods whilst supporting the local farming community and West Country suppliers.”
In practice, this means that when you buy your meat from Gribble's butchers, you are guaranteed that:
- You will know exactly where it has come from – and that will always be from a local West Country supplier;
- The animals are traditionally reared, in accordance with the highest standards of animal welfare;
- The animals are slaughtered humanely and locally to ensure the meat is as fresh as possible (and to keep ‘food miles’ to a minimum); and
- Above all, that the meat you buy will always be of the best quality and taste amazing.
Proud to support the local economy
Owner, Mark Gribble, is a tenth-generation Devonian who is proud of his roots. He is also proud of the high quality of farming to be found in the West Country and the positive – but often unappreciated – impact the farming community has on protecting the beauty of the Devon countryside and its diverse wildlife. “What many people don’t realise” says Mark, “is that the rolling hills, patchwork fields and pretty hedgerows that make Devon so special simply wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for our agriculture.”
Mark’s huge respect for the West Country farming community, and his commitment to supporting the local economy, means that he has built up very close working relationships with every one of the West Country farmers who supply his meat. “I know each and every farmer individually and they, in turn, know us well enough to understand exactly what we and our customers want in terms of size, weight, carcass etc.”, says Mark.
Mark also supports the local family-owned Langs Abattoir in nearby Ashburton where all animals are taken directly by farmers. This avoids the welfare problems associated with long-haul bulk animal haulage, such as spread of disease, not to mention unnecessary ‘animal miles’ and the impact on the environment.
Traditional Butchery Methods
Gribble's Butchers has a staff of over twenty including ten full time, experienced and skilled butchers. All use the traditional hands-on methods of hanging, butchering and preparing meat with no mechanical processes involved. In addition, all of Gribble's sausages, burgers, bacon and gammons are freshly made by hand on the premises.
In addition to providing customers with superb meat, Gribble's Butchers is committed to providing a friendly, helpful and very individual service to both its trade and retail customers.
Any product can be cut from any carcass and monthly or mixed meat boxes can be made up to suit specific needs, allowing maximum flexibility. Also, coming soon, is a customised ‘design your own sausage’ service – a cost-effective way of getting the perfect sausage made especially for you! Free range and rare breed options are also included in the Gribble's meat portfolio.
Hotels, restaurants and pubs are serviced six days a week by company-owned refrigerated vehicles and a twenty-four hour answer phone service is offered to trade customers. Trade customers may also choose to have their produce vacuum-packed to maintain freshness and Gribble's offers free local delivery on orders of £30 or more.
